Success Factor Modeling for Healthcare: the study I developed together with Robert Dilts

Almost twenty years ago I experienced a very serious illness that put me in a coma and had to have an emergency liver transplant. This is why when I learned about Coaching and NeuroLinguistic Programming a few years later, I decided I wanted to do something new and good in the health field. And that’s what I did and I’m still doing. I specialize and do a good portion of my work as a Coach and Trainer in the healthcare field, serving physicians, health professionals and patients. I love my job and have always told myself that if I can help improve the quality of even one doctor’s work and/or the quality of even one patient’s treatment path, I will have accomplished my purpose.

I have known Robert Dilts for years because I certified with him as a trainer in NLP; then, a few years ago, I coordinated the team of translators of his book on the methodology of Success Factor ModelingTM, Next Generation Enterpreneurs, published in Italy by ROI Edizioni. From there a real “burning fire” pushed me to propose to Robert to extend, adapt and apply the methodology to the field of health.

No such research had ever been done in the world, and after finding the resources to get started, we launched the Success Factor ModelingTM for Healthcare study in Italy in 2019. It is a study about the success factors in the healthcare ecosystem.

What’s the difference that makes the difference in cases of Success in the Healthcare System?

This is the key question from which the study started with the objective of:

  • Identifying the key factors related to success performances in the different areas of Healthcare System
  • Organising those factors into a model
  • Developing new specific assessment tools and training programs in order to transfer those factors to others and support their application

And that’s exactly what Robert Dilts and I have been doing, reaching out to all the different sectors of the Health System then, to people/stakeholders who operate in the various areas of the health system, and analyzing success cases on all levels of success factors: environment, behavior, skills and capabilities, values and beliefs, identity, vision/purpose, based on the basic components of Success Factor Modeling: Mindset, that is How we think, Actions, that is what we do and Outcomes, that is what we achieve. We created an effective model based on the results that came out, that are congruent with the results of the second year of the study in Italy and of the first year in France and Greece where the study has been launched in 2020.

We’ve created assessment tools that are also available online at the Dilts Strategy Group website; now we’re developing the training pathways to support people working in Healthcare, convey those success factors, and facilitate their application, starting with the basic element of Mindset. It will start in January 2022.

Today at EpiCoaching I am continuing my journey to add value to the world of Healthcare through Coaching. With Cristina Campofreddo we are developing a program dedicated to healthcare professionals specifically on coaching skills in the context of medical interviewing. A new challenge to share, a new piece of the journey to continue to learn and be grateful for.

Thanks,
Emanuela Mazza

Grazie,
Emanuela Mazza

The value of silence in coaching
